Nothing! Library accounts are FREE, though you may be asked to pay a small fee of $1.00 for a replacement library card if you lose the first one issued to you.
What are the residency requirements to get a card?
There are no residency requirements. You can live almost anywhere and get a library card with us. We have reciprocal agreements with St Joseph Public Library and Mid-Continent Public Library, so if you live there or here you can get a card at any of those libraries too. If you live in Buchanan County and want to check to see if you live in our library district, click here to see a map.
How old do you have to be to get a library card?
We do not set a minimum age. Any parent or guardian willing to sign and be financially responsible for an account for a child can apply for one.
How long does stuff check out for?
Most things check out for 21 days (3 weeks). There are a few items that have shorter periods, like our Lucky Day collection of videos. Bookmobile members have a 28 day (4 week) check out, because the bus only visits their town or school once a month.
How much can I check out?
The first time you use your card there is a limit of 2-3 items. A regular card has a limit of 50 items total. There may be other limits on special materials, such as DVDs or folding tables, that vary by item type. Bookmobile accounts for schoolkids also have limits so that there are materials available for all the kids.
Can I renew items checked out online?
Yes, in most cases. Go to https://rollinghills.biblionix.com/catalog/ and log in with your library card number and your password/PIN (which is your 7-digit phone number with no dash or space if you have not set a custom password; 10-digit if outside of 816 area code). Then click on the MY ACCOUNT button and then the "Items Out/Renewals" tab. On the right side there will be a RENEW button next to every title that is eligible for renewal. Some items might not be renewable if they have reached the maximum time out, are on reserve for another member, or are set to not allow renewals.
When are you open?
Branch hours are listed for each location on that site's Location page. Occasionally, we are closed for holidays, staff training, or for inclement weather. We try to notify local media, post on Facebook, and change the phone system on days we have to close.
I have a library card from another library. Can I use it here?
Rolling Hills is not connected to any other library and has a separate catalog, collection and computer system so other cards will not work. But many people have more than one library card and signing up for a new one only takes a few minutes!
I checked out books from another library. Can I return them here?
The Belt Branch, Savannah Branch and Bookmobile are all part of Rolling Hills and you are welcome to return materials to any of our branches. If you checked out your materials somewhere OTHER THAN our three locations, we ask that you please return them to the lending library. Look inside the cover or for a sticker for the name and address of the owning library.
How do I login to my account? What is my PIN/password?
In the upper right corner of our library catalog, enter the last 6 digits of your library card number in the first field and your 7-digit phone number in the second field with no dashes or spaces (10-digit if your area code is not 816). If your phone number doesn't work, you may have set your password to be something else. Call or message us and we will reset it for you.
You can create your own password by logging in to the catalog. You can also update your contact information and renew your library card before it expires.
For our online resources that require you to log in or make an account, use your full 14-digit library card number and PIN/password.
Do you have Wi-Fi available?
Yes! Free wi-fi is available at both Belt and Savannah Branches. It is open access and you should see it as RHCL_LIB on your device. You may have to open a web browser on your device to accept our usage rules, but you should only have to do this once per day.
Is there a computer I can use at the library?
We have public access computers at both Belt and Savannah Branches. You can sign on with your library card number and PIN/password or stop at the desk and get a guest pass. Computer time is limited per day in order to provide access for more users.
Are printing and copying services available?
Yes! You can print and copy and SCAN to email at either library branch location. We are also working on wireless printing, which is available at the Belt Branch now in testing. Ask at any service desk about printing, copying, and scanning services.
Do you have a fax machine?
No, we do not offer fax service to the public, either sending or receiving. We recommend people try their local bank or office supply store.
How do I check out an e-book?
With your library card number and password you can log in to our e-book and e-audio services and download items to your device with a certain app or interface. Each device is different and every service is different, so there is no one set of instructions. We offer classes for people to learn how or make an appointment for one-on-one assistance.
How do I register for an event?
Most library programs do not require registration, but we ask for it when we think there will be high demand or there is a limited number of seats available. On our events calendar you can click on any event to see more details and register if it is required.
How do I reserve a meeting room?
Meeting rooms are available for use by the public at both Belt and Savannah Branches. You can check availability online and place a request yourself, or call one of our locations and a staff person will enter the request for you.
How do I reset my PIN/password if I forget it?
You need to call, text, or email the library to gt your password reset to the default, which is your 7-digit phone number (10-digits if you are outside the 816 area code).
Call (816) 232-5479
How old do you have to be to work at the library?
Due to schedule restrictions during the school year from U.S. Child Labor Laws, we do not hire anyone younger than 16 years old.
